Cherbourg Daisy

Cherbourg-Daisy

Sometimes I feel sad when flowers die. But their textures, wrinkles, and final twists and shapes, reveal a mature character to which I am drawn. They share with us their complete life cycle in a very short period of time; for that we are fortunate.

Waiting for Dinner

Waiting-for-Dinner

Tucked into the foothills of the eastern Pyrenees, Villefranche-de-Conflent is a wonder of military architecture. But even in an eleventh century medieval town, the most precious and possibly the most inconspicuous of life goes on, as this little guy waits patiently for dinner.

Video

A Travel Pictorial

I want to share my video memory-book with you.  I’ve ventured into video creation; pairing still photos with music (Alexander Blu’s Emptiness), to create a travel pictorial.  Images from France, Spain, Portugal and the US are included in this little montage.  I would love to hear your comments and feedback.  Thanks for watching!   -B

White Rhino

This beauty was grazing very close to the road in Kruger National Park. We approached as slowly and as quietly as we could in our vehicle. I was grateful for the momentary, unobstructed view, and almost fell out of the car window when our eyes met! Eye contact is a beautiful thing!!

Senseless

Senseless-III

It was moored alone, docked and basking in the sunshine on a quiet Sunday afternoon. ‘Senseless’ appeared deserted, so I was able to capture some quick shots of this solitary beauty.
I was conjuring “endless days at sea” stories in my mind and happily loosing myself in the moment.  Without warning, I was startled out of my photographer’s reverie, when a man suddenly emerged from the cabin on the boat. He started shouting obscenities, began thrashing his arms in every direction and marched up and down on the deck of the boat. His unexpected agitation provoked the previously subdued dog, and continuous barking ensued. The tirade continued as he jumped on his bicycle and started down the dock toward me.
I had just enough time to collapse my tripod, dial 911 (just in case), and jump into my car; a conversation and a meeting of the minds, was not going to be the smart thing for me to pursue.
As I drove safely away, I replayed the scene in my mind. Even when you’re not looking for trouble, it sometimes finds you! The whole incident was just ‘Senseless’.

Lace Curtains

Lace-Curtains

St. Elmo, one of Colorado’s most preserved ghost towns, feels and looks like its in miniature. I was bombarded with details, texture, light and history; everything a photographer craves.
Not sure why two adjacent walls required so many doors. Perhaps it will remain a mysterious secret, kept by history and this home’s clientele!

Kaffir Boom

Coral tree, colloquially known as kaffir boom (Erythrina caffra), is a small semi-evergreen of South Africa, having dense clusters of clear scarlet flowers, red seeds and light soft wood.

Cascais Portugal

A resort destination for Lisboêtas and travelers, Cascais was and still is, an active seaside fishing village along the Estoril Coast, 30 kilometers west of Lisbon.
This image was well suited to some texture blending and interpretation, to capture the feelings I had as I gazed through this aqueduct to the ocean.

Bay of Cadiz – Low Tide on the Beach

This solitary beach on the Bay of Cadiz was home to countless boats anchored to the sand during low tide. They looked all at once forlorn and peaceful; waiting patiently, resting, until the next adventure at sea.
On another note, I’ve just launched a new website: www.fivefeetsquare.com.   I will be adding fine art images, available for purchase in a variety print and canvas sizes. I hope that you will stop by and enjoy perusing my new gallery.
